Travel Album-Chest

Hello!  Pion Design has released another new collection, “The World Awaits” and it features bold colors and fun travel themes and images.  Although I love their feminine pastel collections, I was glad they released this collection as this gave me an excuse to make some projects for my grandsons.  This 4″ x 8″ x 4″ depth travel album-chest contain 6 fixed hinges on the bottom of the box and a pocket is attached to each hinge. Inside each of the 6 pockets is a waterfall card that holds 17 small photos.  All together, with 6 waterfall cards, the album holds 102 small photos.  This project is also being feature on the March Pion Design blog here

Let’s travel the world and document your adventures with the new Pion Design collection The World Awaits. This collection will awaken your inner wanderlust while you relive the memories from your last vacation.
The brand new patterns have that perfect vintage touch, and with its pleasant colors and elegant imagery, The World Awaits is suited for a vast variety of projects. Hi Maryann,
I was in awe of your amazing craft room and believe me, there is nothing I would love more than to spend time crafting with you! 🙂 We go to Europe every year (usually England) and this May we are spending time in Amsterdam and England. One of these years we may end up in Denmark, and if so, would love to check out your craft room in person! Thank you for your comment and a big thank you for all your inspiration that you give me!

Tara, would you please consider doing a tutorial on your Travel Album chest? I find all your creations are beautiful, but every so often there is one that I would just love to make.

Hi Sandra, First I want to thank you for your kind words, and for taking time to comment. As far as how to make this project, it is very easy! Just use thick chipboard to make a 4″ x 8″ x 4″ depth chest. Each of the two pieces of the chest measures 2″ x 8″ x 2″ depth. I got the metal hinges to hold the two pieces of the chest together at Hobby Lobby. Once you have made the chest, cover it with your paper, and then use sturdy cardstock to make 6 fixed hinges on the bottom of the box, about 1/2″ apart. I always use Score Tape to attach the hinge system to the bottom. Once your hinge system is attached to the bottom, attach a pocket to each hinge. Inside each of these 6 pockets is a waterfall card that holds 17 small photos. Each waterfall card measures 3 1/4″ wide x 7 5/8″ long and has 8 attached “waterfall” sections. that are 3″ x 3 1/2″ size. I hope this helps get you started with this project. If you have questions along the way, please let me know and I will be happy to help! Have a great week! Tara

Where do you get the hardware? The feet, metal embellishments (globe, sea divers mask, compass etc.) and the handles and hinges?

    Thank you

    1. Tara Brown

Hi Joli, For this project, all the metal embellishments came from Hobby Lobby except for the metal handles. The metal handles are a Kaiser Craft product. Have a great day! Tara
