Altered Letter Boxes

Hobby Lobby has many items that turn into fun crafting projects for me, such as this stack of metal letter boxes.  I bought this when they had a 50% off sale on all of their metal items and then transformed it into a beach-themed letter box with Pion Design’s Seaside Stories collection.  The entire metal project was large, at about 2 feet tall so I’ve included photos of each individual metal box to show finer details of the paper and decorations.

I am far from the ocean here in Oklahoma, but I currently live on a beautiful lake and so like to consider this project as a “lake home” project.  This project can also be found on the Pion Design Blog here.
Best wishes for a wonderful summer!

Tara you have been crafting away havent you? I love the letter boxes, so much that Hobby Lobby is on my list for tomorrow. Im not sure what is on sale, but I want to see if they have these boxes. I dont know why I didnt know you lived in Oklahoma, for some reason I thought you lived in Europe!!! You get some very cold weather, just like I get srriously hot weather here in Florida. Makes me feel better knowing you live here!! Thank you as always for sharing one of your beautiful creations. You are my hero!

Hi Tammy, Yes Oklahoma is my home – it is very hot and humid in the summer and very cold in the winter! 🙂 My oldest daughter Ashley spent the last 2 years in Naples, FL completing a nurse anesthetists (CRNA) school and I absolutely loved visiting her. Florida is such a beautiful state! I am so glad though that she graduated in June and has now returned home to Oklahoma (with two of my grandchildren! 🙂 ). Thank you Tammy as always for your sweet words. Do you have a craft blog by chance? Tara

Tara I don’t have a blog. I have been told over and over to sell my stuff but I just never have. Im very picky about my crafts and when I make something, I always feel that it’s not perfect enough to sell. Although, I have people ask me all the time if I sell my stuff. Maybe one day, I just don’t have the courage yet. Especially when I look at your creations. But my stuff is more grunge with lace and rhinestones or pearls. Its hard to explain. But I love it!!! Im so glad you like Florida. I have been here for 55 years and I have grown to dislike it. It’s just so hot all the time. It’s hard at Christmas when it’s in the 80’s to feel Christmasy!!! I love snow, and my Father lives in North Carolina. SO, when I need a dose of snow, I just visit with him!!!!. Tara, have you ever thought about doing a live Facebook instructional presentation that people can watch and you can show us how to do one of your items and talk to us at the same time. I see them all the time and they can be quite fun. As much as people love your stuff, I think it would be awesome to have you do something like that!!! Just a thought! See you soon!!!

Hi Tammy, Sounds like you have the best of both worlds – snow in NC and beautiful scenery in Florida! Two years ago, I retired from my position in Oklahoma City as an optometrist and moved to the northeastern part of the state where my family lives. I started a new career and am now full-time faculty at Northeastern State University here in Okla. and am living with family temporarily until we find our “forever” home (we only recently sold our home in the Okla. City area so we are now free to buy a new home). So in other words, we have been transitioning for the past 2 years so it is difficult for me to even craft at all! I am hopeful that once we find our home and get settled, I will be able to do things like instructional presentations, but for now, it is impossible. I hope you have a great weekend! Tara

WAUW WAUW WAUW and yet another WAUW. You just as usual outdid yourself here once again Tara, and I can only agree to every word you said,. I´m soo lucky though, that I only live 22km from the fjord, which leads right out to the sea, so I´m pretty close to a beach here, but then we all are here in Denmark, as there´s nowhere, where there´s more than 50 km to water somewhere, because we´re such a tiny country ha ha.
I absolutely love your letterboxes here, they´re just as adorable as everything else of your amazing work, and I just sooo love these papers too. Just a shame we don´t have a Hobby Lobby here, cause I still remember all the great things., I could find there, but also remember the overweight I had to pay for, last time we went home ha ha ha.
Have a wonderful time and lots of fun crafting more of your amazing projects.

Hi Maryann! You are fortunate to live so close to the coast! I’m so glad you liked the letterboxes, and would love to see some more of your recent work! Do you still have an active blog? If so, send me the link! Much love! Tara

    Hello Tara
You have got some beautiful work on your blog. You are so talented. I also got a good look at your website but I’m not sure it it’s still open, is it? Would love to buy some of your stuff! Particularly some stamps. Thank you.

    1. Tara Brown

Hi Pauline, I apologize for just now getting back with you! I have temporarily closed my online store. I moved about 2 years ago, and have still not settled in a permanent place yet, so won’t be able to start back up until I have finally settled. Thank you though for checking! Tara
