Monthly Calendar Chest

Hello!  This chest is completely handmade from chipboard and contains a fixed monthly album.  There are 12 pages to the album, each with a large pocket and pull out card and two smaller pockets – one on the front of the large pocket and one on the back.  This gives plenty of space for photos and keepsakes.  You can find this project on the Feb. 26 Pion design blog here:

I bought some silicon molds and have made most of the resin embellishments on this project.  Making the resin decorations is fun and super inexpensive!

With the chest opened, you can see the 12 cards, with each month stamped on the front of the card.

This project was made using the beautiful papers from Pion Design’s new collections Days Gone By and Our Furry Friends.  Both collections make beautiful, feminine projects.
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Tara

First, I want to let you know how grateful I am for your kind words! I do not currently have a formal tutorial for this project, but it is really just a simple chest made of chipboard measuring 6″ width x 9″ length x 5″ depth. Each of the 12 pages are fixed to the bottom of the chest via a hinge system where there is about 1/2″ between each page. This gives room to move each page forwards or backwards. I hope this information helps! Take care and let me know if you need any more information on how to make it. Have a great week! Tara

This is absolutely stunning!!! Beautiful job Tara! May I ask, where do you purchase your pearls to line all your projects? I LOVE that look!
    Hugs,
    Jo

Hi Joann, A thousand thank yous for your wonderful words! I buys those strands of pearls from Hobby Lobby when they go on sale half price. You can find them in the craft section. I cannot resist not using pearls to frame my projects – it has been a “trademark” feature I use on almost all of my projects. I love frilly, fancy over-the-top decoration – that’s just me! :). Thanks again! Tara

Love the inserts, how were they constructed, also have been looking for the library type pulls, what kind did you use and where can I find them!

    1. Tara Brown

Thank you! I am sorry for the slow response as I just saw your post today. :). The inserts are contained within pockets which measure 5 7/8” width x 3 1/2” height. Each pocket is attached to a bottom hinge. To make the pocket, take a piece of card stock measuring 3 1/2” x 12” and score it at 5 7/8” and again at 11 3/4”. Fold it on the score lines and then use the remaining 1/4” piece to adhere to the opposite side to make a pocket. I also applied a small separate pocket to the front and back of the main pocket. Apply glue to the bottom hinge and then insert the pocket over the hinge and press firmly to adhere. The insert measures 5 3/4” width x 4 1/2” height and was cut to have a raised area in the middle of the card to attach the metal label pulls to. I ordered these label pulls from Kaiser Craft. I hope this information is helpful to you. Let me know if you have more questions! Enjoy the week! Tara

Tara, I would be more than over the moon excited to craft with you!!! We have the same soul I believe, because we craft so similarly. Although I do get a bit more grungy at times, but I love the frilly, girly, pearly, blingy, pretty soft paper….kind of crafts!!!! What a wonderful day it would be!!!! Hugs!!!

PS Tara could you explain the “hinge system you are using on the bottom for the 12 calendar pages please?? Thank you!

    1. Tara Brown

Hi Tammy, I apologize for the slow response! I just now saw your message. I cut two pieces of Card stock 5 3/4” wide. One should be 12” length and the other 9 1/2” length. For the 12” long piece, leave 1 1/2” clearance at the front (before the 1st January card) and then score down the 5 3/4” side every 1/2” until the end of the paper (21 times). For the 2nd 9 1/2” piece, score 1/2” 15 times, leaving 2” at the end. Fold and apply score tape to your hinges, leaving 1/2” between each of the 12 hinges. Adhere the 2nd piece of card stock to the 1st by overlapping the 1st 1/2” scored section to the 1/2” end piece of the 1st piece. The length is 1 1/2” clearance at the front, 2” clearance at the back, and 5 1/2” for the cards for a total of 9”, which is the length of the box. I know that’s a lot of information, so please let me know if I need to explain this better. It’s hard to explain without showing pictures of the process. 🙂 I hope you’re enjoying your week! Tara
