Wood Box with an Irish Blessing

Wood boxes are sturdy and make great gifts.  Although handcrafted card stock and chipboard boxes are fun to make, let’s face it, they just don’t hold up as well over the years.  They are more for keepsake decoration.  On the other hand, a wood box can be preserved for many years and can be a functional heirloom.  For this project, I started with a plain, unfinished, inexpensive wood box from Michael’s.  I painted it with a soft beige acrylic paint and then covered it inside and out with layers of “My Mind’s Eye” glittered papers.  There is sewing machine stitching, pearls, lace, flowers and a Melissa Frances frame on top.  The Spellbinder’s Floral Oval die cut is used inside to show the Irish Blessing stamp.
